Maintenance Items on Subaru Forester XT

I am considering purchasing a 2004 Subaru Forester XT with 128,000 miles on it for my 18 year old daughter. I have never owned a subaru before. Can anyone tell me what are the common high cost maintenance items? For example, on Hondas, it's typically the timing belt at around 100,000 miles. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

The timing belt is important. Other than that change the oil frequently and keep it tuned up and use premium gas. I would not buy my kid a turbo car! For one thing you need to let it idle for several minutes to cool the turbo before shutting it off. How many kids will remember do that?

F_O_R, I noticed (if I'm seeing your profile correctly) that you own a 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium and state that it is a total lemon. Is that correct? If so, why do you feel that way?

Needing 2 new engines and a new AC system in the first 2 years might be reason to hate a car don't you think? Dozens and dozens of trips to the dealer trying to get things worked out has soured me on this car.

WOW!!!! So sorry you’ve dealt with all that! Given issues like those why didn’t they give you a new car? Does your state not have a lemon law?
