I have an 06 pontiac grand prix and my
transmission went out. I'm looking to get another
one in put in what is the best thing to do. A new car
or rebuilt? or used?

If you only plan to keep the car another year or two a used one will work fine. Most will have lots of miles on them like yours so don’t pay too much and don’t expect it to last forever. Of course if you’re trueing to do this as economically as possible spend the money you are going to spend on this car on a newer one. There’s no cheap way to replace a transmission in a modern car if you’re paying a shop to do it. And an 06 GP is not worth very much no matter what shape it’s in.
