Pontiac Grand prix gt water pump?

Asked by IEatMarkers97 Apr 09, 2016 at 04:49 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I have a 2005 pontiac grand prix gt with 210,000
miles. Lately I've noticed that when I push (as in
heavy on the throttle) the car, when I stop the car it
is smoking from where the water pump is, I'm
assuming it's the water pump but I'm not sure,
maybe a gasket? It doesn't leak at idle, and I've
done a pressure test and no leaks were found that
way.

It's not an oil leak, none of this has anything to do with oil, and I stated that I did a pressure check on the cooling system.

Either the water pump needs to replaced or the head gasket is bad causing an overpressure in the cooling system pushing water out of the water pump seal. I would replace the water pump to see if that fixes it.
