2005 Pontiac key replacement

We lost the ignition key, so the car has been sitting
for about a month. We had a locksmith come cut a
new one but the key won't register to the car. He
told us we needed to buy a new anti-theft key
module. But we never had a problem with the
ignition before we lost the key.

I agree. The car didn't suddenly break when the key got lost. Follow the programming steps in your owner's manual. You may need to consult someone who knows more about auto electrical issues than a locksmith would. Might even require a trip to the dealership, but at least you'll be able to drive your car again.
