2004 Pontiac grand prix

Ok i have a 2004 grand prix. Been having a problem recently with the
temperature. After driving for a short while the temperature gauge raises all
the way to the top and the engine and service traction system lights come
on. Then i loose horse power and it takes a second for the car to speed up.
Even when sitting at a light the car shakes and feels like it may break down. I
believe i may be running low on anti freeze. Any ideas on what this may be?

Sounds like you have multiple issues. First, have the error codes read and attack those things first. After the codes have been eliminated by fixing their sources, then attack the overheating issue. They may also generate another code but look into thermostat functioning, water pump functioning, cooling fans functioning and the coolant level is within the proper level indicators.

If we think the car may be running low on anti freeze wouldn't the first thing to do be to check the coolant level and top it up if needed? Just a thought.
