How long (in mileage) can the 2002 Grand Am SE with original 78,300 miles be driven safely with the Service Engine Soon light on? It's only been 1,000 miles since last oil change.

Someone didn’t reset the maintenance reminder light. Maintenance light is a reminder to change oil and do a check of other maintenance items. If you are talking check engine light, this is different and vehicle has an issue that needs attention ASAP.
