what is wrong, and could i just replace a rod and piston?

my 2001 grand am started to knock after i started it at school one day i went to work and
home the next day i took it too school then home and on my way home, i was getting up to
speed and it made a loud boom and shut off, i rolled home and it was steaming and doesnt
turn over at all is it somthing i could fix. i have all the tools i could need soo... tell me what you
think. thanks

I think its much to pull engine and replace,and less costly too,if you ever pulled one apart after a bang like that, its 98% distroyed

thanks i got a new vehicle i just thought it would be a fun experience but if its all destroyed then it sounds pointless. I'm going to part it out in the summer thanks again
