How hard would it be to take the seat out

kind of a putzy job, if you lose fasteners and get mad is not for you...have someone else do it...would drive me berserk at my 49 year old MS body~

It's the only way to figure out what is jamming!...guess you could take an inspection mirror or dental mirror and try to figure out what's holdin' up the show...perhaps an unwelcome visitor was abusive to the lever and bent it...there has to be an explanation...these things do not fail by themselves...usually~

I don't get mad the hard part for me is no shop and prob don't have all the proper tools

I'll give it a go appreciate the info

yes you don't have to take out the seat...that was desperation talkin' and my usual Gorilla to pick up a pizza mode of operation~ really work with the free play takin it back and forth and observe, perhaps a shop vac may save the day yet~

if you could stand the smell you could douse it in WD-40 and/or Tri-flo lubricant (the type olympic bicyclists use) then try to work it with a broken lever...a small vice grips makes a temporary handle (I was young once)~
