Sudden gear change while on drive?

Asked by Guru9NSLKT Jan 28, 2022 at 06:04 PM about the 2004 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2012 montero sport, this will start on P or on N, like normal car will,
however when I am driving the car will go into N without me noticinf when until I
hit the gas and the does not move, just accelerates. I then move the shifter to N
and D several times and it will go on normal again, until it happens all over.

A low fluid level due to a leak in the transmission casing will cause the car to go into neutral. Also a burned out transmission and or old fluid will cause this problem. It's best to have a transmission shop or decent mechanic to diagnose the issue instead of guessing.
