Motor suddenly died.

Asked by SNEWSNEW Jan 31, 2020 at 01:34 PM about the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving up a bumpy road last night, almost to the top, hit a mild pothole I
could not see, and the motor shut off. Lights stayed on but no key indicator
or aux power, no radio, work. Motor would not start after. No click, no attempt
crank. I see a decent amount of oil coating the passenger side wiring
harness towards where the starter is. Need focus direction. Competent with
fixing problems with cars, when a car savvy person helps me zero in on the
likely source(s).

1 Answer

Was the 40amp key ignition fuse. However, I keep hearing what sounds like the starter trying to engage when going uphill. I heard this begin about 3 weeks prior to last night when it died. Could this imply a short in the wiring harness?
