Does the PCM have anything to do with the Air Conditioning functions?

Asked by jfeblen Jul 27, 2017 at 03:57 PM about the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We turned in our Grand Marquis for the Light Switch recall and noted to the service people that the AC compressor is slow to kick on but once it does, it works fine. They are now tewlli8ng us that it is the Powertrain Control Module. Does it have any function with respect to the AC?

It can but I would check many other things before going straight to a costly repair like the computer. Get a second opinion. It could be several cheaper fixes. Check system pressures, low pressure switch, Compressor relay, weak clutch on compressor, does it go hot when you are idling at a stop light? Condenser could be issue. I would not tell second shop that you went to the first or what you suspect.
