Brake light switch

When replacing the brake light switch I depressed
the brake pedal and heard a clicking sound what's
the sound  coming from

More than likely it is the shift interlock solenoid releasing the shifter. On newer cars it is necessary to have the brake pedal depressed before you can shift out of park if you have a center console type shifter.
