I changed the heater contol butthat was not the problem.  I bypassed the heater coil and
the ac works fine.  Is there a door that directs teh air over the heater coiol?

Yes. The Blend air door actuator. Sorry but you'll need to pull the dash for this one. It's on top of the heater case. Some guys try to get it through the glove box but, more often than not, they and the heater case get torn up.
