I have 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, there is a problem with the security system, had to get a key reprogrammed twice, and the second time it did not work, is there a way around the security system, car is on last legs not looking for major repair

Asked by arehim Jul 07, 2016 at 11:29 AM about the 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr GS Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Security system has a problem, the car won't acknowledge the key we
have, so we had a locksmith reprogram the key, that worked for about 2
days. Then the problem happened again, we called a locksmith again he
said there was a problem with the system and that a ford specialist should
look at it. The car is on its last legs, I just want to keep the car running until
I can afford new car, is there a way to bypass the security system in a way
that we wont keep running into this problem

Ford EECIV computer system no by-pass. Confirm with the locksmith that he did NOT just "clone" a key which is just a RFID copy of the key you had, and that he did ENTER a NEW key CODE in the EECIV computer, which is the correct method, a cloned key should NOT cost more than $60

Okay, I will have to give them a call once I get out of work to see if he did enter a new code rather than clone the key, if he did enter a new key code, and this problem did reoccur, could the driver side door not locking properly or being open from the inside cause the car to go into a security safety mode?

I have a 2001 mercury grand marquis that suddenly stop turning on. The computer code showed that it was a anti-Theft issue. The electro mechanic I took it to was a repoff and want to charge $85.00 to diagnostic it after he performed a computer reprograming of $500.00 a month ago. I heared that it could be a fuse problem... please advise!
