exhaust smell in cab when accelerate

right after having a repair that the intake maniforld had to be removed, my '93 Mercury Grand Marquis has an exhaust leak-  exhaust smell when accelerating, and a tick can be heard slightly.  Is this indicative of any specific part malfunction?

Blown exhaust manifold gasket (ticking) Sometimes bolts fall out. Can be tough to losen those rusty old bolts, but it can be done.
