1992 mercury grand marquis

When driving I can smell antifreeze and my temp
gauge fluctuates but never gets hot. Also my heat
doesn't work very well due to car not getting warm
enough. ..... Could it be the thermostat??

Sounds like a coolant leak. Is the passenger floor wet?
