Everything needs power and ground , git yer multi tester and see what's up , On some vehicles brake and directional share a bulb and the brake light runs through the directional switch , weird huh ?

Could be as simple as a blown bulb. Replace it and see what happens. If it works, you're done. If not, get out the meter to see where the line is loosing power.
