Why is my 1996 Lincoln town car shaking while idling and accelerating?

First I noticed a hesitation while accelerating, like it didn't want to go. Then my
check engine light came on, sometimes solid and sometimes blinking. Haven't
had hesitation after that but noticed my car shaking. It begins to shake from
the moment I start the car, while accelerating and idling. Don't know a lot about
this car, I only had it three weeks.
