Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 grand cherokee with a 3.7 l v6 using oil a lot. Can a 4.0 l inline 6
be swapped into this vehicle. It has AT. What adapters, motor mounts or other
mods needed? What about ECM computer. Any suggestions would be
appreciated

The short answer is "No". The 2004 model was the last year the factory installed the 4.0 liter six engine in the Grand Cherokee. The 2006 is a whole new Jeep and the 4.0 was discontinued and the 3.7 was it's six cylinder replacement. Even if someone could cobble it in, you would have a ECM nightmare making it run.

Thanks for the info. Was suspecting such. Are there any more robust engine combos for this year? Any that would be feasable?

For the 2006 model year the other engine option was the 4.7 liter V-8 but again the problem would be the Engine Control Module. The current ECM for the 3.7 would not be compatible with the 4.7 engine. Best swap would be a new or rebuilt 3.7 engine. (They might have also used the 5.7 Hemi...same problem.)
