2005 Grand Cherokee wont start

Asked by Guru9J6S1R May 13, 2023 at 08:34 PM about the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My daughter just started driving and she pulled into parking space at work and
shut the Jeep off while still in drive. she couldn't get key out of ignition. she went
in to work and 4hours later came out and called me. As soon as I got there I
noticed it was in drive. Put it into park and came out no problem. But now it
wont start. Radio and dashboard lights work but it wont even try to turn over

Most likely the battery is dead from the ignition being left on while she was at work. The ignition lock can only be turned to the lock position so the key can be removed when the transmission is in park as a safety feature. When the ignition lock is turned to the lock position the steering wheel is also locked. You wouldn't want that to happen when you're driving. Hope that helps! Jim
