2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Parking Brake Actuator Replacement

I have an '04 Grand Cherokee Overland, and I am trying to service the rear emergency brake assembly.  When I pulled off the old shoes, the actuator (the lever clip that attaches to the end of the emergency brake cable) came loose from the cable and fell off.  I can't figure out how to get it back on.  Is there a way to re-assemble the thing so it properly captures the slug at the end of the brake cable?

Ok if this was mine I would remove other rear wheel down to where I could see its e brake cable end without actually removing or loosening it from its original position. Maybe looking at what it should look like will give you clues as to how to reassemble the one that fell apart.

I tried that. The cable is completely surrounded by that actuator clip, and I can't see how it is installed inside without risking it coming apart in the same way as the first one.
