How much of a pain is it to swap a bad trans
for a used good one on a 04 grand cherokee
loredo 4.0L automatic 4x4? Anything i need
to look for or be carefull of? Does anyone
know if it needs to be dealership
reprogrammed, or just the transmission
timing?

They are heavy so be prepared and have some friends with you .it's a fairly normal swap make sure you use care in disconnecting the prndl control connectors ,Flush out the trans cooler and lines ,as I'm betting they have trash and debris you don't want in your new transmission .

They are known for having a shift issue when warm. Does your Jeep run fine when it is cold? If so you need to replace a transmission temp switch. This is commonly misdiagonsticed.

There is no timing involved wit the swap . As far as programming the transmission control module isn't being replaced so again shouldn't be an issue . There are several reasons your transmission is faulty. As poster saod .temp sensors , speed sensors ,prndl those are the simpler reasons .but involve diagnosis to determine which of any are causing your specific problem.
