I'm sorry but 2001 and 2004 Jeep starters do not interchange at all regardless of engine. There was six cylinder engine and a V8 for both 2001 and 2004 Jeep. Nothing can be swapped out according to my parts data base. The good news is that you can get a rebuilt or new starter for about $70 online and maybe locally. Obviously, you should take the new one. Also, some sites charge a core deposit and that's a hassle sending the old one back online if they require that. Shop around.
