2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Struggles to Start, but dies after 3 sec
My '01 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo recently go rear-ended and now
struggles to start up. It starts every time, just not too cleanly, but 3-4 sec after
it does starts, the engine dies out. Does not give any diagnostic codes,
anybody have this problem?
It sounds like the accident, not your fault, is causing these drivability problems. If that's the case, maybe you and your mechanic can show cause that insurance should pay the repair, or at least half. All your fuel components are in the back and the gas tank on this model was in a recall because of it's vulnerable position in rear collisions. In addition to the tank, there's the pump, the filter which also contains the fuel pressure regulator, and all those fuel lines. Incidentally, the 1999-2004 were recalled to be given a free trailer hitch which was believed to provide protection to the tank. I hope this gives you some "ammunition" to win some fair treatment.
