Asked by Cloey Jan 16, 2019 at 07:18 PM about the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. I have a 97 grand Cherokee with a
straight 6 engine, and roughly 173,000
miles... my Jeep is randomly dying at stops
only.... Never when I’m driving. I have
replaced the engine coil and crank shaft
position sensor and still no luck, the guy I
bought it from got a new distributor and that
was also not it. this is my first car and I have
to get to college and back. My car guy has
no idea what’s wrong.

Wow, that's a nice looking Jeep. Have it scanned for codes even if the check engine light is not on. I think the problem might be AIC Air Idle Control. Replacing the crankshaft position sensor was a good idea too. Your new one won't fail anytime soon, and that was my first thought.
