My 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 cranks, but will not start..?

Asked by Jbradley96 Dec 19, 2018 at 09:43 PM about the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I first got the Jeep, I was told that the reason it would crank, but not
start was because the anti-theft system was engaged due to the previous
owner losing the key and having to basically hotwire it. After ordering and
installing the new ignition with new keys, I reset the anti-theft system and it still
wouldn't start. My boyfriend and I replaced the spark plugs, coil packs, and
have even gone as far as replacing the computer and checking the fuel lines
for leaks and the fuel pump and it STILL won't start. I ordered a new
crankshaft position sensor, but haven't been able to install it yet as we just
haven't had time to. Could that be the problem? I'm hesitant on replacing it
and that not being the problem because we just don't have the money to keep
replacing things and that not fix the problem. Also to add, it has not jumped
the timing nor is it an injector problem as he has had both of those looked at
by a mechanic friend of his. I just really want to get this Jeep fixed and
running as I have been begging for a Jeep for two years and finally got one..

Sounds like exactly what mine is doing. We have replaced Crank and cam sensors. Plugs, coil pac, throttle control sensor, IAC valve. It only seems to get worse. Cranks one time, then sputters and dies. I'm at wits end. So I was looking to see if you had an answer. Good luck with yours. Hope you get the jeep you wanted soon. They are not all bad. I've had 5 now and this is the first time I've experienced this problem.

I have to unlock the tailgate before I unlock the drivers door or my alarm goes off and it wont start. Sounds silly but it's true. I dont have the fob. 93 grandwagoneer.
