Will replacing the Instrument cluster change my mileage?

Asked by element06 Mar 30, 2016 at 01:18 AM about the 2006 Honda Element EX-P AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a failing Instrument Cluster on a 2006 Honda Element and I'd like to
replace it with one I've found on ebay. If I plug the new part in, will it show my
current mileage or the mileage from its past car? Do I need to calibrate it?

when you plug the part in it wont show your mileage it will reset think of it as buying a new case for your phone "itll look shiny and new but it wont tell you about all the times your phone has fallen" (If that makes sence?) . If the odometer display is digital, the part you orderd could be taken to the dealers "Programmable module installation" if you want everything read accurate. If you place it yourself then you are pretty much out of luck on reporting proper mileage. P.S. its illegal(Fraud) to sell the vehicle to someone without letting them know you changed the cluster. Some states require some legal paper work when you do this or just simply grab the tittle paper and write in the lines toward the bottom that the car has X amount on the original odometer plus what the new one says
