Electrical problems

Asked by Radu Dec 28, 2017 at 02:18 PM about the 2005 GMC Yukon XL 1500 SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I have a 2005 GMC Yukon xl. After I go to a
carwash the electrical problems start. The abs light
is on so the brakes. The battery goes from 14 to 12
then to 16 and sometimes goes to 9, so does the
fuel temperature and oil, always playing. I’ve been
to teton motors paid 2700$ and they replaced some
sensors and said it’s all good. But nothing changed,
and then after a day or two everything works fine,
and then starts again when I go to a carwash. Does
anybody know what wires are exposed to water
that I could check. The battery and the alternator
were also replaced.

There are probably a number of electrical connections that need to be sealed with dielectric grease to keep moisture out. I would also look at the weatherstripping on the hood. The more water you keep out the better.

Check your computer box for water droplets, left side under hood. no more truck washes under GMC for me. Light pressure air dried after popping off cover, blow with air dry can used dielectric silicone on bottom computer chips, sealed unit again, no more problems. Ken, hope this helps.
