High Mileage?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do these cars do at high mileage? I have the option of buying one at 99,092 miles? Is there a point where they go down hill fast?

Hello, These are good cars that do not tend to have a certain kind of problem at high mileage particular to their model. However, the condition of the car is entirely dependent upon prior owners. In addition, it is an older car so will have problems. If you want to buy the car, I recommend taking it to an independent mechanic to have it checked out before purchasing. On the plus side, the car is not too old, so the miles may be primarily highway miles, which would be significantly better than many city miles. Best of luck! CarGrrl

Better late than never. But there is an expensive bit of maintenance that has to be done around 90,000 miles which involves replacing the timing belt and pullies. It could run between $1,000 and $2,800, depending on who you take it to. I bought an S4 with 85,000 miles on it and just had the timing belt swapped. It's running great now. Another tip: check the oil and see if there is sludge on the dipstick. If there is someone has been running organic oil instead of synthetic and that might reduce the life of the car if you don't get it flushed.
