Mmi control panel

I recently bought a used 2005 Audi A6 quattro. The mmi control
panel doesnt seem to work right. The previous owner spelled coffe
on middle console pannel/ buttons. Coffee was spelled by the gear
shidt and ontop of the navagation button controls. The navagation
display only switches on for acouple of seconds then it shuts off by
itself and wont turn back on till i start to push buttons again. But then
shuts off. I need some advise how to maintenance this problem on
my own and not having to spend money on fixing it with a audi
mechanic due to I am on a budget. I hope u could give me some
advise on how i could fix this problem.

I had this same problem on a newly acquired A6 Avant. There are great instructions for removing the center console and MMI Controller on the web, so I will not repeat. Once I got my MMI unit out i cut with a razor the label binding the two halves together and removed the four screws. Take a picture of the front so you do not loose track of button locations. Any residue from water, coffee, soda ... will accumulate on a black rubber membrane under the keys. It is held to the circuit board with molded rubber spokes. Gently pull it out and rinse it off. Once it is dry, carefully with a dulled toothpick or similar put it back on the board and push the rubber spikes back through the holes on the circuit board. Re-assemble and you are done.
You should also look at the keypad and clean anything left there as well. The job is a little intimidating at first glance, but really quite easy. Stupid design
I can’t agree more: stupid design. I would never allow my students to deploy an electronic system with such a flaw.
same here i was told to replace mmi board got in ebay $50-$60 also was told to clean all the buttons. have to take it apart to do that buttons was very sticky button was hard to push down i did that thinhs work only issue i have bass fades in and out so have to see the issue with that only issue have with car had for 4 years now 130k ride like its new
Same problem once I turn the car on nav opens then seconds later it closes .. so i should just take everything apart and clean it ?? Or buy a new mmi ??
I had a problem with stuck buttons and critical contact electronic spray helped. Same electronic spray that solves scratchy volume controls.
