Crap starter ? Bad install ? Don't tear up the teeth on the fly wheel or you'll be totally bummed ,Buy AC delco , OEM parts . Over the years I've had to eventually get a quality starter on some vehicles so I've learned to spend the extra bucks and install OEM parts the first time .

I agree with BUC. The Bendix drive on the starter is defective. Novices can avoid this problem by buying quality parts. Mechanics bench-test parts prior to installation.

ANSWER POST SHORTLY... Does anyone else think that CarGuru's fear of real life and the terrors of the internet have gone too far.

They don’t want to maintain this portion of the site. Worse case on your starter issue as you stated it has a flywheel then make sure the ring gear hasn’t come loose from the flywheel. I have seen this happen a number of times.

Gone too far ? Maybe , there was a time when there was 2-3 pages of spam that had to be flagged everyday .

Check your flywheel for missing or broken teeth. Also check the starter drive gear to flywheel ring gear teeth clearance. You might need to shim the starter to get the proper clearance. Clearance is checked with a round feeler gauge in between the teeth as shown below. Hope that helps! Jim

As mentioned above. No proper gap between the stater bendix and flywheel gears (teeth), worn flywheel or faulty starter.
