Would anybody have a rough idea about how much parts/labor would be to
have the fuel pump replaced in a '95 Dodge Ram Van 3500? I think it may
involve dropping the tank. Also, is there a way to test a potential fuel pump
failure besides listening to the tank for it to engage? Thanks!
Well first check the fuel pump relay before assuming a bad pump. If you pay a shop, you're looking at around $400 parts/labor to drop tank and replace fuel pump and filter. If you're at all handy, this is a fairly easy DIY project. Usually can just remove back two bolts holding tank straps and tilt tank back to get to pump assembly. Some vehicles make it harder to reach so may have to remove straps entirely and lower tank but those are fairly light when empty or nearly empty. Also check your vehicle doesn't have an access plate to get to assembly without dropping tank.
