Cruiser revving up when started. What could be wrong?

Asked by Mimi1970 Jul 10, 2011 at 11:15 PM about the 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Today when I started my PT Cruiser it revved up as if I had my foot on the gas. I put it in drive and it drove alright until I had to come to a stop.  Then it would reve up and idle back down, everytime I stopped.  When arriving at home I put it in park and it revved up again.  What could be wrong?  Thanks.  I have had it for 10 years and have in the past year had to have the transmission replaced.
