2004 Ford Taurus Factory anti Theft System

Asked by MrsMoultrie Jun 26, 2016 at 08:52 AM about the 2004 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: General

Wondering if there's a way to reset anti theft
system. I just had the brake light switch replaced
and now the car won't crank. It will turn on but
won't crank. Wondering what could have activated
alarm. I have tested both keys with chip and one is
a match for system. Don't know what to do

From the world wide web..... Is your 'THEFT' light blinking rapidly when you put the ignition in 'RUN'? You can try the following steps and see if the car will start. 1. Turn the key to 'RUN' (do not try to start). 2. The 'THEFT' light should blink rapidly. After a minute the blinks should slow down. 3. Turn the ignition 'OFF' and remove the key and keep it at least 2 feet from the steering column for 30 seconds. 4. Put the key back in and turn to the 'RUN' position. Wait for the normal engine self-test procedure to take place. The 'THEFT' light should not be blinking. If it isn't you should be able to start the vehicle normally. If this doesn't work and the 'THEFT' light is still flashing you can disconnect the + Positive battery cable for a short while and reset the computer. If that doesn't work the PCM will most likely need a flash.

I have a 99 Ford Taurus, it wouldn't turn over. battery is good, starter is good (tested), bought a new ignition switch but still wouldn't start. i saw a comment in another video that said to push a little black button that is down by your feet right next to where you plug a code reader into, and it started right up. If anyone knows what the button is, please let me know. Thanks

Its goes beyond a battery issue I've changed my battery it starts but then this issue starts all over again with a brand new battery, new starter and altenator tests out good. I've tried the theft reset of open driver door putting the key to on position wait 10 mins take key out close driver door. Yes it has worked all 4 times but this is a huge inconvenience everytime I turn the car off get back in and nada. Something is causing this and I csnt figure out what 10 mins feels like hours when you have things to do. Why does this continue to happen atleast 2 to 3 times daily. Or I'm driving theft light comes on car jerks then shuts off like as if I ran out of gas sit 10 to 15 min and restarts driving as if its dragging 2 elephants. It's happening more often months ago it happened 1 a month now like I said a few times a day either it doesnt restart after a stop or stalls out as I'm driving because of the theft light comes on. Damn Fords 1st and most likely last also pcm relay looks burned in the fuse box it's dark in the housing relay not burned but the plastic yellow is darker then any other relay underneath on plastic fuse box...
