Problems like this happened in older vehicles frequently, even when they were just a couple of years old. The problem may be with the air conditioning condensation feeding back into the car. If your condenser or any of the fittings are located on the passenger side, this may explain the problem. Short of actually taking it to a shop for a proper diagnosis, I can only offer this as a possibility to have checked. Good luck.
