Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took my car for inspection but I knew it needed some repairs. My dad
thought it was the alternator but the shop said that was fine but a lot of other
things needed done. I ended up paying almost 1300.  I was wondering if any
of these repairs would need the oil changed because I was charged for one
but I just got one the day before I dropped it off. Also just wanted to see if
anyone thought anything on my bill looked off. I had never been to this place
before and after I agreed to repairs it was difficult to get them to tell me when
it would be ready to pick up. They kept giving me the run around and saying
they needed to drive it more for emissions. But yeah this is probably a dumb
question but I don’t know anything about cars so I pretty much had to agree
to whatever they said needed done

For the repairs that were done you must of had a check engine light on,engine running rough, noise or rattle type noise under vehicle going over bumps, and some play in the steering, Close? As for price it does not look out of line both parts and labor. Hope this helps. Chuck.

Parts and labor rates look very reasonable. We are not able to determine if the repairs were necessary. If the car has over 100,000 miles on it certainly it was due for a tune up and the front end parts were likely worn.

I acquired a Ford Five Hundred with 130,000 and I needed to do all that work plus quite a bit more. I can see your car needing those parts. The prices look inline with the cost of good parts. I don't see any reason for an oil change given the other work, but I don't know what the 'LOF' in front of it stands for. I think it's a good thing that you had your car fixed. I wouldn't want my family driving a car with those issues. The mechanic did you a favor by ensuring the emissions tests pass. There could have been another issue that only appears when tested. One of those tests takes a long time to complete, especially if it's cold outside. You would have been upset (rightfully) if he gave the car back only to have a check engine light appear a week later when the test completed. Take care.
