Should I get remanufactured or used transmission for my 2002 Explorer?

There is a huge price difference but don't want the used one to die in 2
months. I am being quoted $2400 to install a remanufactured transmission. Or
I can get a used one for about $450 and a mechanic to install for $400. The
problem is that my Explorer won't shift in reverse. Drives perfectly fine besides
that.

Have you changed the filter and fluid..? Remanufactured is the best and most dependable way to go.
Yes, I have done all the maintenance. It drives perfectly fine, just no reverse. It's a know issue I guess but trying to figure out the best plan of action. Remanufactured does sound more dependable. Thank you!
Get a re-manufactured transmission as it should have a warranty. A used transmission (zero warranty) may or may not be a good deal and there is only one way to find out and that is to take the risk.

Doesn't appear you need a new transmission. Why not repair the one you have.
Sounds like you have a band or servo problem. If you decide to go the reman route, they all come with a long warranty period which is offered by the company which remans the transmission. Make sure you get the name of the company who warrants the transmission along with the warranty documents. If you do not have "documents" you have no warranty.
