What is this loud fast knocking?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had no previous problems with my truck,
drove it yesterday, with no issues. I get in this
morning to take my daughter to McD's, go to start
the truck, only to be caught off guard by a loud,
fast, constant knocking. Hubby took off the belt to
check idle pulley... thats not it! It doesn't sound like
a thrown rod (though, we are not mechanics, so it
could be). Does anyone have ANY ideas as to what
else it could POSSIBLY be? My husband is pretty
knowledgeable when it comes to working on
cars/trucks, and he's outside right now, probably
about to tear my entire truck apart trying to figure it
out. He works enough as it is, and I would hate to
see him take everything apart, if there is a chance
that it could be something simple, something that
we're just not thinking of at the moment. Thank you
in advance for ANY input & 411
