cranks but does not stay on

Asked by jaeliam Feb 21, 2016 at 07:25 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 explorer xls. All interior lights work.
Exterior lights work. Vehicle will crank. Sometimes
will start for about 5 seconds then shuts off. I
used starter fluid which helps for a bit but itnwont
seem to stay on. When it starts and i rev it. It
seems to just shutdown and wont start again until
starter fluid is added. What may cause this?
Alternator? Injection system?
