I have a 2002 ford explorer and I cant seem to
figure out what I have blow back pressure to my
reservoir tank and it blows antifreeze out of the
cap and makes a mess. Im not sure if its because
of the warped heads or because the thermostat
sticks. If I dont let the car warm up for at least 10
minutes the temp gauge sky rockets and wont go
back to half way for about 10 minutes after I shut
the car off. Could it be that the cap leaks? Or the
heads? If anyone has any information that would
be great.

I have replaced the thermostat 3 times and it still does it. I took it to a mechanic over the winter and he put ceramic sealer in it for the heads because the heads are warped and it worked for about 3 months. Iv been having this problem since we bought it back in November of 2017. Its just 1 stupid simple problem after another that I have fixed. I dont want to get rid of it because it has no rust anywhere and it only has 100k on it. Its a reliable vehicle the major problem is it keeps overheating.

Yes it is a v6. When I first start it there is a strong fog blowing out the tailpipe untill it warms up. If I let it run for about 10 minutes I usually dont have a problem all day. But if it over heats and i shut it off to let it cool down I can drive it for the rest of the day with no problem
