Ford Escape 2002 value?

My son bought a 2002 escape XLT in FL with 170000 miles on it. He is now back in NJ and although little things are happening, it is running pretty well and he has 199,000 miles. Is it worth anything? Leather seats, body is in excellent cond., AC, radio, sun roof, power seats, etc. Seems like it was fully loaded and he is second owner. Would like to turn it in and get something smaller engine for economy. Any suggestions?

at a car auction, it woud probably fetch $300-$500, plus buyer and seller auction fee's. Trade in value of $1,000 would probably equate to my $400-$500 estimate. They would be showinig an over allowance. Would it pass inspection legally right now, with enough tread and brakes, and no lights on in the dash? If the answer was no, how much would you sell it to your mother for if she was looking for a reliable trusted vehicle. Would you want her to drive it? If not, should tell you how much it is worth - ie: whatever someone would be willing to pay.
