Question type: Shopping & Pricing

im interested in a used suv and came across an ad that reads 93 ford explorer very clean inside and out. it had pics and it looked really good it also reads well taken care of 4.0 liter runs like a dream. it is an automatic with 166,742 miles on it. is this to many miles put on this vehicle for it to be reliable?

Those 4.0 last forever but the transmission are the week points on these vehicles. Pay close attention to the fluid color and smell and the shifting while driving.

Not necessarily but make an effort to find out if any transmission work has been done on the truck the ford autos in these rigs tend to have lots of problems also find out if the Catalytic convertors have ever been replaced these tend to become restricted blowing head gaskets not good that and listen to it for any irregular noises. High mileage vehicles are not necessarily bad it all depends on how well they were taken care of.
