I have an 01 Silverado 2500 HD is there any way to prove the fuel pump is bad without actually removing it

to pull the tank or bed off

Need a fuel pressure gage, check fuel pressure, should be 56 to 62 lbs.

Make sure the fuel filter is clean, new, and there should be what they call a Schrader valve, pore, on top of the intake where the fuel line come into, hook up the pressure gage at this point.
