Chevy Silverado stalling when low on fuel

Asked by Tianyu Sep 07, 2020 at 08:10 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 05 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8 V8 LS stalls
badly when low on fuel. I’ve narrowed it down
to it only happening when I get below 1/4 tank
about 2 notches from E. When I give it gas it
sputters and struggles. When I get to going
and doing about 50 and want to go faster I
step on gas and it just boggs down and if I
hold pedal down it will eventually die
completely. It has also come out of cruise
control on the highway before. I bought a new
throttle sensor but haven’t put it on. I thought
about fuel filter but this truck doesn’t have
one it has the fuel module pump in the gas
tank and I think it could be that. I’ve also
thought since water floats in gas that when
tank gets low it could be sucking in some
water from some bad gas I got at some point
in time. Anyone that has figured this out
please share. Thanks
