Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had question I have a 03 Silverado 5.3l and I'm having
transmission problem it won't shift to 3rd and high rpms
that was today, yesterday it was changing to all shifts only
problem was it was with high rpm and it said transmission
hot then I stop let it cool down then I took off again and it
was running good for about 15 min and then it started to
go slow I was going 70mph and I could only go around 50
and I stop and checked trans fluid and there was a little of
fluid in it I put two bottles of trans fluid and took off and I
could only go 50mph or less today I went to a guy that fixes
trans and told me it doesn't go to over drive and he has to
rebuild the whole transmission is it true ?

Rebuilding tranny is the last ditch effort to saving it, there are other things to try first, namely check, clean, or replace shift solenoids. Try a shop that specializes in transmissions and have them run it on a stand. Rebuilding is usually for things like a worn pump shaft. You might also prefer to replace the transmission with a remanufactured one rather than rebuilding yours, a reman unit will be cheaper and quicker.
