Oil pressure

Asked by Elizabeth Nov 25, 2018 at 04:18 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4
wheel drive 1500. When I start it
the oil pressure is at 40. 20 to 30
seconds later the oil pressure
drops to 0. When this happens my
engine rattles.
Then when the pressure goes
back up, the rattles stops.
What might this be?

Perhaps the oil pump is worn out or the pickup screen is dirty. Your engine also may be worn out but first check the oil level!

O-ring on the oil pick up tube. Oil sending unit. Bad oil pump. Probably one of those three. If it's rattling, then it's not getting enough oil. That's very bad. Take it to a mechanic and get those things checked.
