2004 monte carlo extended crank

Asked by Craig Feb 23, 2014 at 03:39 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Supercharged FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Monte Carlo has an extended crank problem where it takes anywhere from 3-5 seconds to start.  If the car has been running within the last 10 or 15 minutes it starts fine, but any longer than that and it has the issue.  If it sits overnight it has trouble starting, but if you let it sit for 2 nights without driving it, it starts perfectly every time.  Also, if you let it sit overnight, and the temp is below around 20 degrees, it starts fine.  So far, my mechanic has had me replace the fuel pressure regulator, and the mass air flow sensor.  We have also replaced the plugs and wires.  Nothing has changed.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Stopped and got the battery tested. He said he wouldn't replace it yet, but the reading was decently low at 550 cold cranking amps. The car doesn't have a slow crank or anything. it repeatedly turns over, just doesn't fire.
