Is it a mistake to buy a new car that is planning to discontinue that model the
following year?

It means that your going to loose a big chunk of value when it goes bye bye. So in my opinion it would be a mistake.
As GA said, you'll experience that economic thing. But then there's always the potential problem with replacements parts availability. Nobody, not even the government socialist nannies, will prevent car companies from stopping parts production. Then try to keep parts available for a decade, but that often doesn't happen..... If you're leasing that Lincoln POS, you might be OK, as residual is in place at lease. But buying it might end up costing you more than if you had gotten a more reliable and desirable car.
