Extremely Loud external sound - sounds like singing/ringing bell.

Asked by SweetDemonXIX Jun 30, 2022 at 12:54 AM about the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid EX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought my new 2023 Kia Sportage last weekend. Yesterday I went to
put gas in it and took it out for a drive on the freeway. When I was almost
home, a very - very - very loud sound started coming from the front of the
car. It almost sounds like ringing bells with a certain singing quality to it...the
dealership said this is normal and "is part of the adjustment of having a
hybrid" but....we're talking LOUD and a sound that was not there for the first
few days that I had the car. How do I fix this?

Thank you

Take it back to the dealership right away, I suspect a problem with the AWD. As this is a KIA don’t let them give you the run around, document everything, KIA’s are not very reliable so you will need documentation if it is a lemon.

That's part of the pedestrian alert system. I'm guessing you were in battery mode at the time. The alert must be active in reverse, by law, but I believe you can dampen it for forward only..... Go back the dealer and find someone who's not an idiot (good luck doing that at a KIA dealer), and get this explained..... Or just READ THE OWNERS MANUAL.
