GAUGE NEEDLE LIGHTING

Asked by SPOOKYTOOTH Nov 16, 2010 at 01:11 PM about the 1994 Lexus SC 300 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

THE LIGHT (POSSIBLY AN LED) IN THE SPEEDO AND TACH INDICATOR NEEDLE HAS GONE OUT.  DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS...

To start off, is the backlight always on even when you turn off the headlights? If its off when your headlights are on, try wiggling the wires under the steering wheel. That may indicate a loose connection. If that doesn't work, most likely, the dimmer switch that controls the backlight brightness for the gauges is broken.

you can pull out the cluster and replace the bulbe,or the cluster is going bad.

New cluster, if you can find one,$1,400.00. This is a common problem with this car. Many people remove the plastic front and paint needle with red/bright orange paint or paint background white so you can see needles at night. Speaking from experience.
